USF School of Business and Professional Studies Professor David Batstone, founder of NOT FOR SALE, an international organization which fights human trafficking and slavery, has written a piece for CNN Opinion that accuses Romania of being a center for buying, and selling slaves throughout the European Union. Individuals are promised jobs, and then forced into slavery as prostitutes, factory workers, or beggars, while police turn a blind eye. Non-profits cannot solve the problem alone, he says. He calls for a rule of law, but also for the creation of real jobs in Romania.
