The Oxford Companion to Philosophy
In addition to long essays devoted to the great American and British philosophers, this book includes entries on less monumental figures such as John Stuart Mill and William James. Contemporary philosophers are not overlooked with entries dedicated to thinkers such as Peter Singer. As expected, ideas, arguments, theories and the like are included. Helpful extras are the chronological table of philosophy (600 B.C. 1994) and maps of philosophy which visually break down topics into detailed subtopics and related topics.
