Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

EPA is responsible for researching and setting national standards for a variety of environmental programs. This site provides information on federal policies, programs and priorities as well as background information on a wide range of environmental topics.

U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)

The USGS serves the Nation as an independent fact-finding agency that collects, monitors, analyzes, and provides scientific understanding about natural resource conditions, issues, and problems. This site is an excellent source for research in the following areas: biology, geology, mapping, water resources.

TRAFFIC

TRAFFIC is an international organization that monitors world wildlife trade, including major commercial sectors such as fisheries and timber trade. At this website you can find brief news articles and in-depth reports on environmental issues relating to endangered species.




The National Environmental Directory

A directory of more than 13,000 organizations in the United States concerned with environmental issues and environmental education.




Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

The IPCC was established to provide an objective source of information about climate change. Its role is to assess on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the latest scientific, technical and socio-economic literature produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of the risk of human-induced climate change, its observed and projected impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation.




United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

UNEP’s activities cover a wide range of issues, including encouraging protection of ecosystems, the promotion of environmental science and information, and developing capacities to deal with environmental disasters and at-risk habitats.




World Resources Institute

WRI provides information, ideas, and solutions to global environmental problems by working with organizations and individuals throughout the world. At this website you’ll find environmental data and full-text research reports.




World Wildlife Fund (WWF)

WWF is the largest privately supported international conservation organization in the world. It directs its conservation efforts toward three global goals: protecting endangered spaces, saving endangered species and addressing global threats.



Networks and Portals



Center for International Earth Science Information Network

CIESIN’s mission is to provide access to and enhance the use of information worldwide, in order to advance understanding of human interactions in the environment. The center specializes in on-line data and information management, spatial data integration and training, and interdisciplinary research related to human interactions in the environment. Many statistical datasets and documents (such as full text of environmental treaties) are available here.




EnviroLink

EnviroLink is a non-profit organization which provides an online community for people interested in environmental news and information, uniting hundreds of environmental organizations and volunteers around the world.




Science.gov

Science.gov is a gateway to authoritative information provided by U.S. Government agencies, including research and development results. Subject areas include environmental quality, biology and nature, earth and ocean sciences, natural resources and conservation, agriculture, etc.
