Anaïs Nin: A Life in Letters

The exhibition Anaïs Nin: A Life in Letters brings together for the first time a display of unique materials and related books, artifacts, memorabilia, and ephemera from the Donohue Rare Book Room collections. Documenting the personal life and literary career of Anaïs Nin and drawing upon more than 3,000 pieces of correspondence, the exhibition highlights a lesser-known side of Anaïs Nin’s intellectual autobiography. It shows shared thoughts with family, insights into her craft as a printer, her support of friendships and literary associations, and commentary on books, film, travel, and daily life. The letters cover a sixty-year period from the author’s early childhood until her death in Los Angeles in 1977. The majority of letters are to her mother, Rosa Culmell, her brother Joaquin Nin-Culmell, and to her husband, Hugh Parker Guiler.

August 28 through October 27, 2000

Opening Reception: September 7, 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm
