Books
To
find books and videos at USF, search the catalog
from the library's home page. The catalog searches broad
descriptions of books and videos. Use the catalog to find primary and secondary sources.
Search by Subject

- Browse
by subject using
relevant subject headings, such as the following:
Keep in mind not all books on mixed race are picked up in the above subject headings. It may be necessary to broaden your search to more general subject headings (e.g., race identity; browse by ethnic group) or try searching Google books.
Subject headings are "official" subject headings approved by the Library of Congress; they are hard to guess on your own.

To find videos, click on
and select Videos as material type.Search by Keyword
- Search by keyword using your own terms and use the limits on the left-hand side of the results screen to focus your search.
Keywords are words you would normally think of to describe your topic. They can appear anywhere in the record (title, author, subject, publisher, etc.)
You can use keywords, titles, or authors, to point you to subject headings. For example, a keyword search on "hapa" leads to you to the book Intersecting Circles: The Voices of Hapa Women in Poetry and Prose edited by Marie Hara and Nora Okja Keller. You'll see possible subject headings to search, that are assigned to this book are "American literature -- Women authors", "Racially mixed people -- Literary collections", and "Women, Hawaiian -- Literary collections."
Search by Title or Author
- Search by title or author, if you know the title or author of the book you're looking for.
Find Books and Videos in other Libraries Using Link+
Click on the
icon in the catalog to search for books and videos in over 40 libraries in California and Nevada. Link+ items arrive in 3-4 days to arrive. They can be checked out for 3 weeks and renewed for an additional 2 weeks through your library record.
Remember to use Link+ to request titles that we are checked out of our library or that we don't own. Search Link+ by keyword or subject to discover books and videos you may not have know about.
Find Books Using Google Books
Google Books includes thousands of digitized books from publishers and partner libraries. Because Google Books searches the full text, you can often get good results with more narrow, specific searches and find books you might not have found in the catalog.
For example:
The entire text of most recently published books will not be available. Search USF library catalog or Link+ to find a copy of the book you want.
Find Books and Videos Using WorldCat
WorldCat searches books owned by libraries around the world. Use WorldCat if you cannot find any books on your topic in the USF library catalog or Link+.
Search the following databases to find relevant newspaper, magazine, and journal articles. If the full-text of an article is not available, click
