Collection & Collection Development
The library maintains an extensive collection of materials on United States
law in both digital and non-digital formats. The library also has basic working
collections of English and Canadian law and international and comparative law.
-
Descriptions and links to the library's extensive electronic materials
collection (Internet-based databases, Lexis and Westlaw, HeinOnline, Bureau
of National Affairs (BNA) materials, etc.) can be found on the library's
web page devoted to online
research resources.
-
Most print materials dealing with federal law are located on the second
floor of the library. Materials geared to law school class preparation are
in the Open Reserve area on the first floor. Older materials are kept in
compact shelving on the lower level. For one overview of our federal law
materials, see United States Law — Call Number
Guide to Major Areas of the Law.
-
Print materials addressing California law are shelved separately on the
library's main floor. For an overview of our California materials, see California
Law — Call Number Guide to Major Subjects & Materials.
-
Reference materials, such as dictionaries and encyclopedias, are also shelved
separately on the first floor.
-
Post-1979 law reviews and other periodicals are shelved in the middle bay
on the lower level. Many pre-1980 law reviews are in compact shelving on
the lower level.
-
International, comparative, and foreign law print materials are shelved
in the south bay of shelving on the lower level, as are non-legal titles.
Current and heavily-used English and Canadian materials are also shelved
in this area. Other English and Canadian titles are in compact shelving
on this level.
- Zief Law Library is a depository for selected California government documents.
Additionally, USF’s Gleeson Library is a selective federal depository
library. Through an arrangement with Gleeson Library, some of the depository
legal materials received by Gleeson are housed within the Zief Law Library
collection. For more information about Gleeson's government documents collection,
visit the Gleeson
government information web pages.
To find out whether USF owns a particular book or subscribes to a particular
periodical, search Ignacio, the catalog
for USF's Gleeson and law libraries. (More information
about Ignacio is available on a separate page.)
