Cataloging Computer File
Preparing the materials for review--Cataloging
Floppies--CD-ROMs--Internet Resources--Example
of Book accompanied by computer file--Example
of Remomte File
Preparing the materials for Review:
These procedures apply to computer files regardless of carrier, i.e., those
on floppy disks, CD-ROMs or the Internet resources. They also apply to items
that
are accompanied by computer files (e.g., a book with a disk).
Items that are only computer files, or are accompanied by computer files, may
be routed to the Cataloging Assistant with other items. They may also be routed
directly to the Systems Librarian. Each title will be prepared in much the same
way as everything else.
Cataloging Floppy Disks:
Only files available for patron use will be cataloged. Files for staff use
only, that will be acquired, etc., within Tech Services, will receive a brief
record only if an
OPAC record is necessary. Only the MASTER copy will be retained. We DO NOT make
a duplicate copy of floppy disks any more.
Cataloging CD-ROMs:
These will not be marked or labelled in any way. Any labels placed on a CD-Rom
will unbalance it, and it will not spin properly in the drive. Any cataloging
information necessary will be placed on the container.
Cataloging Internet Resources:
Catalog any Internet Resources file that is related to a title in the collection,
or that has come to Cataloging from Collection Development.
For serials, follow the CONSER Cataloging Manual Module 31 (including whether
or not to create a separate record for the remote file version of a title).
For non-serials with online reproductions (i.e., online versions produced by
scanning the original, or by converting files used to produce the original):
follow
AACR2 & LCRI, any guidelines at CPSO, and consult the Guidelines for bibliographic
description of reproductions.
Include a classification number, in case printouts are to be made and placed
in the collection
The record should include a bib location of lint; if this is the only location,
it may be added before PUTing the record from RLIN by including the
following in the LDA line: ;bn=lint;
Each record should have the following item record; if there are printouts placed
in the collection, their item records should precede this "internet"
item
record:
Loc: lint
Status: @
