CIN Codes Used in RLIN

They are used in the CIN field of the RLIN HOLdings screen, which maps into the 998 $c field on the OPAC. They are designed primarily to facilitate creation of the New Acquisitions list, and to "explain" the last PUTing of a record from RLIN.

  • ACQ:

"For the New ACQuisitions list." Use for all newly cataloged titles that are not related to any title previously owned by the library, and all new editions. Do not use, e.g., for title changes or supplements or special issues cataloged separately.

  • UPD:

"UPDated RLIN record." Use when updating our own previously cataloged RLIN records, whether or not the record is being PUTed. E.g., use when updating a RLIN record that already has ST=p and a CSFL id no.

  • RET:

"RETrospective conversion." Use for all recon.

  • REL:

"RELated title." Use when newly cataloging a title that is related to a title previously owned by the library. E.g., use for title changes, and newly and separately cataloged supplements, special issues, etc.
