We are in the home stretch of an incredible year filled with hope and change in lockstep with concern about the country’s economic situation. One remarkable feature in this year of uncertainty has been the student response: organizing important symposia on undocumented workers, raising nearly $50,000 for PILF and internship placements, and planning summer work around the globe, from India and China to Buenos Aires and the American South. Perhaps most remarkably, despite student debt, the 2009 graduating class has already pledged nearly $50,000 to endow a scholarship for future generations of law students. Within weeks we will toast the Class of 2009 at the Annual Alumni Graduates Dinner, scheduled for May 20 at the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco, and we invite all alumni to join the celebration. A few days later will bring graduation, with civil rights icon and child advocate Dr. Marion Wright Edelman receiving an honorary degree and delivering the commencement address. It promises to be a fitting end to a challenging and inspiring year at the USF School of Law.
