Moot Court Case Counsel

Case Counsel are second year students who have completed and excelled in the first year Legal Research, Writing and Analysis Program’s oral advocacy exercise.

Selection is very competitive, and is based on a number of criteria, including oral argument skills, Case Counsel recommendation, class ranking, and an interview. Furthermore, Case Counsel are selected based on their willingness and ability to make the necessary time commitment; prior teaching experience; research and writing skills; the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; and the ability to work well in a team dynamic.

Case Counsel assist the Legal Writing Professors in developing and administering the first year oral advocacy exercise.  They draft a Bench Memorandum and work with first year students on developing their oral advocacy skills. Serving as a Case Counsel is a demanding and rewarding experience and allows the student an opportunity to apply for a position on the Moot Court Board in the following school year. Case Counsel receive a partial tuition reduction, one unit of credit per semester, and are required to participate in the Advocacy of the Year Competition during the fall semester.
