Orientation will be held Aug. 13–17, 2012. The orientation program is part of the first-year instructional program. Attendance and participation in the orientation program is mandatory for all first-year students. Orientation materials will be sent out in early July. Formal classes for all law students begin Aug. 20.

First-Year Class Schedule

Recent modifications to the first year curriculum have reduced the course load and added an elective option for first year full time students. The requirement of four courses (reduced  from five) each semester for full time students and three courses (reduced from four) for part time students enables students to focus on fewer subjects more deeply and provides more study/ preparation time in the first year. In the second semester, the choice of an elective class offers full time students an opportunity to sample a topic of their choosing.

First Year Class Schedule: The first year curriculum consists primarily of required classes in a pre-determined schedule. Individual student schedules and book lists will be available in early August. Required first year classes with days/times listed will be posted on our web site in early August at: www.law.usfca.edu Click on Students > Registration & Resources

Full time day students are randomly assigned to one of two day sections of 90-95 students each.  Full time day students will be enrolled in 4 courses a semester (14 units), held Monday through Friday. Three days a week, they typically attend two classes, one in the morning and another in the afternoon; on the remaining two days, they typically attend one class.

There is only one part time evening section, comprised of 50-55 students.  Part time evening students will be enrolled in 3 courses a semester  which meet on four nights a week, Monday through Thursday. All evening classes begin at 6:30 p.m. In the first year part-time program, two class sessions meet 2 hours and two class sessions meet for 3 hours.
