Wil Burns

Adjunct Professor

Adjunct Professor Wil Burns began his career as executive director of the Pacific Center for International Studies, a think-tank that focused on the implementation of international wildlife treaty regimes. He served as assistant secretary of state for public affairs in Wisconsin and former chair of the International Environmental Law Group of the American Society of International Law. He has taught at the law schools of Tulane, Whittier, Golden Gate, and Santa Clara University. He also serves as editor-in-chief of the Journal of International Wildlife Law & Policy and chair of the International Environmental Law Committee of the American Branch of International Law Association. He has published more than 75 articles and has co-edited three books. His current research focuses on climate change litigation, international wildlife law, with a focus on the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling, regional cetacean conservation regimes, and operationalizing the precautionary principle.
