Adjunct Professor Doyle has specialized in intellectual property due diligence and counseling for technology companies for more than 25 years. Doyle clerked for Judge Rich of the Federal Circuit (who was one of the drafters of the 1952 Patent Act), was a research assistant to Professor Thomas McCarthy on his Trademark treatise, and has managed over 70 intellectual property cases. Some of his appellate, trial, and litigation cases include King Instrument v. Tapematic (Federal Circuit, 1995), Sideout Sport v. Nike, Inc. (Central District Calif., 1991), Doyle v. Bilafer (Superior Court Calif., 2007), and Atari v. Sega (Northern District Calif., 1994). He has also been general counsel for several start-up companies. His responsibilities included managing the intellectual property portfolios of these companies. He currently has his own law firm, Janssen Doyle LLP, in Orinda.
