Adjunct Professor Kumli is a supervising judge in Santa Clara County. He was the co-creator of the country’s first Juvenile Mental Health Court and served as the judicial representative on the State Commission on Juvenile Justice. He is chair of the juvenile law subcommittee on the Task Force for Criminal Justice Collaboration on Mental Health Issues. Judge Kumli has served on the faculty at Santa Clara University School of Law, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and a variety of state and national organizations. Prior to his judicial appointment, Judge Kumli was the chief deputy district attorney for Santa Clara County working exclusively on children’s issues as the policy advisor and administrator for matters relating to child abuse and neglect, human trafficking, schools, and juvenile justice. He is the co-author of California Juvenile Courts: Practice and Procedure and has published numerous articles on juvenile justice.
