James R. Madison

Adjunct Professor

Adjunct Professor James R. Madison practiced law in San Francisco until becoming a full-time dispute resolution neutral in 1996. He has more than 35 years of experience as an arbitrator and more than 15 years of experience as a mediator. He specializes in design and/or construction disputes, as well as employment disputes, and has been involved with technology and biotech, real property, franchising, intellectual property, advertising, international trading, and vegetable seed breeding cases. As a trial lawyer and counselor, he has experience with construction, labor and employment, securities, banking, antitrust, unfair competition, real property, sports, media, and other business matters. In addition to teaching trial advocacy at USF, he teaches trial advocacy and mediation at Stanford University and writes extensively on ADR topics.
