Prior to teaching law, Visiting Professor Elizabeth Rapaport spent 17 years teaching philosophy and public policy, specializing in ethics. After earning a PhD in philosophy in 1971 at Case Western Reserve University, she spent the next 12 years teaching at Boston University, University of Southern California, Brown University, Bennington College, and University of Sydney. After earning a JD from Harvard Law School in 1987, she returned to the classroom at Duke University, where she taught in the school of public policy. Her research combines theoretical and empirical components as she looks at the effects of the legal system on the real world. Areas of focus have included the death penalty and executive clemency. Rapaport, who is visiting from the University of New Mexico, serves on the State Bar’s Task Force to Consider the Administration of the Death Penalty in New Mexico. At USF, she teaches Criminal Law and Legal Issues of Terrorism.
