Curriculum and Courses

Required courses are concentrated in the first year of the full-time program and the first two years of the part-time program. Thereafter, students must complete a few additional required courses but, for the most part, may choose from a broad array of elective courses and programs.

Required Courses

To earn the JD degree, a student must satisfactorily complete a group of required courses covering subjects considered fundamental for any lawyer.

Selecting Elective Courses

Students complete their degree by taking elective courses. Our curriculum includes a great many elective offerings, enabling students to pursue their own interests and choose courses from many areas of the law. Selecting elective courses, though, can be a challenge and some advice may be helpful.

Course Clusters

To assist curriculum planning, we have divided our elective courses into general groups called course clusters. The clusters may help you understand relationships between courses and ease the difficulty of choosing courses.

Certificate Programs
J.D. students may choose to participate in one of our optional certificate programs.

Course Descriptions

Not all elective courses are offered each year. Consult the schedule of classes for a list of current offerings.
