Fr. John Koeplin, S.J. has been a professor at the University of San Francisco since 1998. Fr. Koeplin is currently a tenured associate Professor in Accounting since 2004. He was appointed Rector of the Loyola House Jesuit Community on July 31, 2011. Prior to entering the Jesuits in 1981, Fr. Koeplin worked for ROLM Corporation as a tax accountant (1979-81) and Hood and Strong, Certified Public Accountants (San Jose, 1977-79). As a Jesuit Scholastic, John also taught accounting and worked in the Dean's office in the McLaren School of Business from 1985 to 1987. Fr. Koeplin academic expertise is in managerial accounting, financial accounting, accounting education, and moral and ethical judgment for professionals. He has a number of publications in journals related to these topics. Included in his academic research is the honor of receiving the McLaughlin Prize for Research in Accounting Ethics given by the Michael F. Price College of Business School of Accounting at the University of Oklahoma in 2001 (for an article co-authored with Prof. Diane Roberts of the USF Management faculty). John also was given the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2002 by the School of Business and Management.
Currently John is serving as Board of Trustee member for Santa Clara University including the Chair of the Audit Committee. As the Rector of the Jesuit Community here at USF, he also serves on the Board of Trustees and sits on the audit committee, the finance committee, the Catholic Identity committee and the Executive committee. He also is serving as a consultor to the Provincial of the Society of Jesus. John grew up in San Jose and is the 7th of 10 children. Fr. John was ordained to the Priesthood in San Jose in 1991. He has a Ph.D. in Accounting from University of North Texas, 1998, and a M. Div. Theology from Regis College in Toronto, Ontario in 1991.
