Academic Experience
 

USF strives to provide facilities and technical resources that support outstanding educational programs.

Some key USF offerings:

  • More than 60% of our classrooms have fixed projection capability for computers and other media.
  • We offer several computer labs on campus.
  • Blackboard is an educational software platform that provides a user-friendly environment for online teaching and learning. Blackboard enables faculty and students to communicate and collaborate through threaded discussions, document sharing, e-mail messaging and real-time chats.
  • Our libraries provide on-line access to resources such as catalogs, research databases, special collections, full-text electronic full–text electronic journals, and electronic books.

Administrative Experience
 

Administrative Experience includes the transactions and services that support your academic experience.  Many of these tasks, such as registering, changing class schedules, requesting transcripts, and reviewing financial information can be performed on-line.

  • Personal information can be viewed and updated through USF's secure portal, USFconnect:
    • contact information
    • grades
    • degree progress
    • financial status
  • USF offers e-mail, calendar, groups, course tools (registration, unofficial transcripts, check grades, etc.).  Visit our FAQ for more information.
  • USF's One Card Program centralizes access to and utilization of many key services such as:
    • Personal Identification - Serves to identify the cardholder as a member of the USF Community.
    • Debit Account / Meal Plan - Prepaid funds on the USF ID Card can be used to pay for all types of on-campus expenses.
    • Library Privileges - Required for access into campus libraries and book borrowing privileges.
    • Building Access - Serves as a key card to verify eligibility and unlock doors to gain access into buildings.
    • Related Services - Other services related to the USF One Card Program include student employment badges, passport photos, and MUNI Class Pass Stickers.
  • Our school catalog with course descriptions, degree degree requirements, and academic policies—and the semester/term schedule of classes available on our website.

Privacy, security, and usage rules

USF is committed to providing a secure computing environment and safeguarding the personal information that is entrusted to us.  Security policies include:

Student Life
 

USF has many of the resources available to students at our San Francisco campus as well as regional campuses throughout the Bay Area.  Computing access is available to students through

  • computer labs
  • residence hall wired networks
  • wireless connectivity
  • PubNet is a publicly accessible network designed for use with network-ready laptops (i.e. equipped with an Ethernet adapter).

Admitted students are provided with many on-line collaboration reesources through our portal USFconnect, including the ability to set up groups for on-line meetings and information exchange.

USF provides e–mail accounts and USFfiles for personal file storage.

Service and Fees
 

USF does not charge a technology fee.

The ITS Help Desk is available to provide technical support.  Help can be requested in-person, on-line, by e-mail or by phone.

Our ITS Department has recommended computer hardware and software standards that support the academic experience at USF.  USF students may make computer purchases through Dell and Apple at special student pricing.
