AppleTalk was retired from University router interfaces in early August, 2004.
To connect to a University Fileshare, use the instructions below.
- You can connect to another computer or file server using Mac OS X's built-in
networking capabilities. Make sure you are in the Finder by clicking somewhere
on your desktop so that when you look at your menu options you will see Finder
as the first menu choice. Go to the Go menu and select Connect
to Server. This will open the Connect to Server
window.
| OS X 10.2x
 |
OS X 10.3x |
- In the Address (OS 10.2) or Server Address (OS
10.3) field, type afp:// and enter the name of the
server or computer you want to connect to. The main three used are:
- afp://donna.usfca.edu (for the student and faculty
fileshare)
- afp://jade.usfca.edu (for the staff and faculty fileshare)
- afp://galileo.usfca.edu (for the A&S staff and
faculty fileshare)
All our file servers require permissions to access shared resources.
If you are attempting to access a computer or file server not listed on our
server list, you will need to know and enter the IP address of the computer
you are attempting to connect to. Once the information is entered into the
address field, click on the Connect button. You will be prompted
to enter your username and password for the computer you are connecting to.
USF file servers require you to log in with your USFconnect username and LAN password.
