USFconnect is the University's web portal. Your account provides single-signon access to email, a calendar, group tools, USFfiles web-based storage, current information and links, Blackboard online course tools, University online resources, and campus news and events. Because USFconnect is web-based, faculty and staff can log in from any computer with a connection to the internet. The web address is http://usfconnect.usfca.edu.

Passwords for USFconnect are generated when a faculty or staff member is entered into the administrative system. To obtain your password, please stop by the Help Desk at Lone Mountain North during business hours with a photo ID, or call 415-422-6668 and verify your identify to receive it over the phone.

You many change your password online by clicking on the link labeled “Change your password?” in the green box on the USFconnect login page. For security reasons, faculty and staff cannot look up their passwords online.

PubNet

Public network connections (PubNet) are located in Gleeson Library, for use by USF faculty, staff, and registered students. (Service will expand to other parts of the university in the near future.) Your account will be activated the first time you use this service, when you complete the online registration process.

E-mail

E-mail is part of your USFconnect account and is available via the USFconnect website. You may, however, use an e-mail application, such as Thunderbird or Outlook, to manage your e-mail account.

For instructions on how to set up various e-mail client for accessing your USFconnect account, please visit the E-mail section of the ITS FAQ page.

Webpage Accounts

Although you can easily publish public web sites with USFfiles, Faculty and staff may, if you choose, have a separate webpage account. If you would like such an account, please click here and read the confidentiality agreement. (Login to the Intraweb required.) Click on the I Agree button when done. Fill in the requested information and click the Submit button. Once the account is created, the webmaster will contact you with the details of your account.

Please do not place files or web pages that contain sensitive information, such as Social Security Numbers, credit card numbers, etc. Your web pages are viewable by the public and accessible to search engines on the Internet.

Faculty can also have a web account set up for their particular classroom use. This is also tied to the username, but the webpages reside in a different directory. Please be sure to note in your request if you plan on using the webpage account for classroom use.

The general webpage path for faculty/staff pages is http://www.usfca.edu/fac-staff/username and for faculty class pages it is http://www.usfca.edu/classes/username.

For tips on getting started with your web page, please see our Web Accounts FAQ.

The Center for Instructional Technology offers training classes on Dreamweaver, the University's standard web design program. For information about classes, please visit the CIT website.

LAN (Network) Account

Your LAN (local area network) account is used to access University networked resources, such networked printers. Currently, log on is only required for PC users. For new faculty and staff, your username and password are the same as your USFconnect username and password/PIN.

To access the Internet from a USFwireless location, simply open a web browser and log in with your USFconnect username and your LAN password. For more information on wireless access and the latest list of access points, check out our USFwireless page.

USF Alpha

ITS maintains a DEC Alpha minicomputer cluster (formerly known as the VAX), which provides access to student information, financial records, human resource systems, alumni records, and other services. Accounts are issued to individual USF faculty and staff -- no group or generic accounts are permitted.

For more details on Alpha accounts, see our webpage on Faculty/Staff Alpha Accounts.

VPN (Virtual Private Network)

To access internal resources such as the Alpha or a file server from outside the USF network, you need to install and log in to the VPN. Click here for more information, instructions, and client downloads. You need to log in with your USFconnect username and password. VPN use is limited to faculty and staff.
