Information Technology in the Nonprofit Sector
October 23, 2004 the Institute collaborated with the Community Technology Foundation of California to host a symposium introducing emerging research on the application of technology in the nonprofit sector. Scholars from across the country presented new research on how nonprofit organizations are using technology to pursue their missions. Attendees provided important input and feedback on this emerging field of inquiry.

20th Anniversary Celebration

Education for the 21st Century Nonprofit Manager
In February 2003, the Institute held a half-day conference on Nonprofit Management Education, bringing together representatives of Bay Area universities that provide academic education for nonprofit managers, management support organizations that provide training programs for nonprofit managers, and foundations interested in nonprofit management education to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the field in the 21st century. Participants also discussed the findings of a research report based on interviews with 32 experts in the field of nonprofit management education regarding trends in the nonprofit sector and the skills and knowledge areas needed by nonprofit managers in the new century. The conference encouraged cooperation and collaboration among academic and training institutions in Northern California in meeting the full range of educational needs of the nonprofit community.

Improving Data on the Nonprofit Sector
In April 2003 the Institute, in partnership with the California Association of Nonprofits, held a half-day symposium where major state producers of nonprofit data met with academic and research centers to discuss how to improve the comprehensiveness and quality of statistical information on California nonprofits. State participants included the Office of the Attorney General , the Franchise Tax Board, the California Research Bureau, the Office of the Legislative Analyst, the Employment Development Department and the Senate Office of Research. Academic and research centers included the Urban Institute, Guidestar, Indiana University, the University of California, Los Angeles and the State University of California, Fullerton.
