Resources
There are various resources at USF of potential interest to nonprofit
organizations. Here are some examples.
Contracted Research: The Institute
conducts sponsored research and commissioned program evaluations
for foundations, government, and other nonprofit organizations,
when we have staff available and when such projects fit well within
our current research priorities. Research inquiries should be directed
to Carol Silverman, Research Director, at 415.422.2164 or silverman@usfca.edu.
Data on the Sector: Some basic data
are available on the page Facts
About the California Nonprofit Sector. The Institute also works
with customized data sets and analyses describing various types
of nonprofit organizations in California. For more information,
please see Additional Research
Services.
Applied Research by Students: Students
enrolled in the MNA program may satisfy
certain degree requirments by conducting an evaluation research
project for an actual client in the community. Clients are typically
managers or leaders of nonprofit organizations. If your agency or
organization might benefit from having a student conduct a customized
needs assessment or formative or summative evaluation of a specific
program, project, or policy, we invite you to contact us. There
is no charge for the services, although clients sometimes reimburse
the student's out-of-pocket costs. In exchange, clients must agree
to review the students's written proposal and the student's final
report, and must attend one meeting at the University of San Francisco
to help faculty evaluate the student's work. To request a student
research project for your organization, please contact Frank Gigliotti,
Program Assistant, BPA/MPA/MNA, at 415.422.2092 or gigliotti@usfca.edu.
Consulting: Some USF adjunct faculty
in Nonprofit Administration have their own individual business or
consulting practices, separate from their work for USF. Organizations
interested in consulting referrals should contact Kathleen Fletcher,
Acting Director, at 415.422.5121 or fletcher@usfca.edu.
Interns: Other schools, departments,
and centers at USF, such as the Leo
T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good, offer
service learning and internship programs involving nonprofit organizations.
More information on the service learning program is available at
the USF Office of Service Learning
website. Additional information on listing internships for USF students
can be found on the Priscilla
A. Scotlan Career Services Center website.
Curriculum Development: The Institute
offers access to curriculum materials on nonprofits and philanthropy
through its International Nonprofit
Management Teaching Resource Center.
Publications: Institute publications
present research that has practical implications for nonprofit management
and leadership. Publications information is available here.
