Since 1974, the University of San Francisco has offered English as a Second Language
(ESL) courses to non-native speakers of English. USF's Intensive English Program (IEP) provides intensive language training to international students who wish to improve their English for academic, professional, or personal reasons.

The University of San Francisco is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. USF's Intensive English Program is a member of the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP).
