Welcome to the University of San Francisco’s Internal Audit and Tax Compliance webpage.
The mission of the internal audit function is to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services intended to add value and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the University’s operations. The internal audit function assists the University in fulfilling its vision, mission, strategic initiatives, and objectives, while adhering to its core values, by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of enterprise-wide risk management, internal control systems, and governance processes.
The tax function is responsible for ensuring the University’s compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations covering a wide range of tax areas, including payroll taxes, nonresident alien taxes, sales and use tax, unrelated business income tax, property tax, excise taxes, hotel taxes, and the preparation of related information returns and filings. As part of its responsibilities, the unit assists departments with tax compliances matters and provides staff training, as needed. The unit also coordinates external audits and reviews of the University’s tax compliance. Departments who are contacted by an external auditor should notify the Director of Internal Audit and Tax Compliance that an audit is contemplated or has been initiated. See Audit Notification Policy.
