2007 CIT Awards

2008 CIT Award Script

The CIT awards honor full and part-time faculty who have demonstrated excellent use of technology in education.  Recipients have supported the development of teaching and learning, contributing to the overall quality of the USF learning environment.

Charlene Lobo Soriano, Learning and Writing Center, Academic Support Services

Our part-time faculty award recipient consistently uses her knowledge of current technologies to improve the tutoring program at USF. She has created a platform for online tutoring through Blackboard, which enables students to receive the tutoring they need any time, anywhere. She has also developed "wiki" sites that facilitate communication between the student workers at the Learning & Writing Center, aiding in the Center’s development. She has also utilized the iTunes-University podcasting program to enhance online training provided to tutors, and enhanced her college success course with audio and visual material. This instructor consistently incorporates technology to enhance student learning at USF and is a resource for technological development to others. As one student nominator put it, “She should receive this award because it will acknowledge and celebrate one of her many gifts . . . that have impacted our university life and educational community. . . . this award will commemorate her passion not only for technology and computers but also her passion for our university.”

David Silver, Media Studies, College of Arts and Sciences

The full-time faculty award recipient is Professor Silver who builds his classes around technologies that have revolutionized mass communication and popular culture. It's not just about struggling to keep up with technology; it's about looking at it from different perspectives. As one student nominator wrote, “He utilizes and teaches about technology in his classes and incorporates the use of it to make us think more in depth about how this phenomenon has evolved.” This professor is an innovator who cares deeply about teaching and his students. His enthusiastic and pervasive use of blogs is particularly remarkable. He also demonstrates leadership by offering workshops for other faculty on the benefits of blogging in teaching and learning. His contributions to the USF community as a whole are many, including teaching a Davies Forum class on "Digital Literacy" in today’s society.
