The Roman
Catholic tradition sees human sexuality as a wonderful gift from God, to be
celebrated with thanksgiving and used with reverence and joy. Catholic teaching
is that a permanent, faithful, fruitful and loving marriage is the appropriate
place for sexual intercourse and activity. Catholic teaching also
believes in the primacy of conscience and that sexuality education should never
be reduced to a mere communication of information, but must always be placed in
a setting where the rich human, personal and spiritual values of sexuality are
explored and given meaning.
Sexual health
is a state of physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and social well being in
relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or
infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to
sexuality and sexual relationships, free of coercion, discrimination and
violence.
