John Trasviña

Dean of the School of Law

John Trasviña is the dean of the University of San Francisco School of Law. Most recently, he was the assistant secretary for fair housing and equal opportunity in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Dean Trasviña was appointed by President Obama in 2009, and was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Previously, he was president and general counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund(MALDEF) and served in the Clinton administration as a special counsel for immigration related unfair employment practices at the U.S. Department of Justice. A native San Franciscan and a graduate of Harvard University and Stanford Law School, Dean Trasviña also taught immigration law at Stanford Law School and was director of the Discrimination Research Center in Berkley.
