Scott Murray

Assistant Professor

Scott Murray is a practitioner of an emerging, as-yet-unnamed field that uses computer code as a creative medium. Often conveniently categorized as simply "new media," Scott's work incorporates elements of interaction design, systems design, generative and algorithmic art, data visualization, sound design, and video installation. He is interested in the potential of dynamic digital systems to engage and sustain users' engagement, as well as their ability to generate unique experiences in collaboration with participants. His MFA research explored these themes through interactive video installations that used computer vision technology to track users' motion and respond accordingly. Scott earned an AB in Environmental Theory from Vassar College, and he received his MFA in Dynamic Media Design from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He has exhibited installations in San Francisco and Boston and taught workshops on creative coding. His work can be seen at alignedleft.com.
