Brant Ward is a staff photographer with the San Francisco
Chronicle and SFGate.com. He has worked at the newspaper for almost
30 years covering major Bay Area stories from the 1989 earthquake
to the recent gas pipeline explosion in San Bruno. He has worked
overseas in Haiti, Mexico and Somalia. He prefers "human condition"
stories and has been honored for his work on homelessness.
Recent national awards include: Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award
for coverage of the disadvantaged, the James Aronson Award for
Social Justice, Harry Chapin/World Hunger Year Media Award,
Pictures of the Year, University of Missouri and Best of the West
photography competition.
