Mary Gallo

Term Assistant Professor

Dr. Mary Elizabeth Gallo is a professor in the School of Management. Mary has been on both sides of the educational world at USF, she earned her doctorate in Education with a major in Leadership Studies from the USF School of Education along with her Masters in Organization Development. Mary's foremost passion is international service learning.

For Mary, service learning and volunteerism is crucial for both students and instructors in order to enhance understanding, connect theory to practice, foster civic responsibility, and experience different cultures and diversity. Mary has organized and led a service trip to Lima, Peru. In Lima she and a group of undergraduate students worked with homeless children involved in human trafficking. Mary also participated in a mission identity and leadership delegation trip to El Salvador and while there met with social-political leaders and grassroots organizations in order to conduct research on social justice issues.

Professionally, Mary's expertise in organizational communication and leadership has led to many opportunities. Mary has worked within several large companies to design education and strategic communication seminars, create company missions, and has founded an Organization Training and Development Department. Mary's research interests include narrative identity, global engagement and career development among American university students in international community based learning programs. Mary's research and writings have been presented at multiple national conferences and seminars. Her most recent paper, titled Women and Leadership: The Inner Dimension of Leadership was presented at the Women in Higher Educator Conference in Washington, D.C. In addition to all of her teaching and research, Mary conducts OD consulting for a family business, serves on two boards in the bay area and is the Chairperson for the North Bay Leadership council for USF.
