Nikki Raeburn received her B.S from Miami University, and her
M.A. and Ph.D.from Ohio State University. She teaches several
courses, including Sex and Sexualities; Feminism, Gender and the
Body; Sociology of Gender; Race, Class and Gender; Contemporary
Sociological Theory; Deviance and Social Control; and Social,
Political and Economic History of the United States.
Her research interests include social movements, gender,
sexualities, and organizational change. Her current research
project, which formed the basis of her doctoral dissertation,
focuses on the rise of lesbian, gay, and bisexual rights in the
workplace. To understand the variable willingness of "Fortune 1000"
companies to adopt gay-inclusive policies, she synthesizes social
movement theory and new institutional approaches to organizational
change. The analysis focuses on gay, lesbian, and bisexual employee
mobilization over the past decade to win domestic partner
benefits.
Her book, Inside Out: The Struggle for Lesbian,
Gay and Bisexual Rights in the Workplace, was published by the
University of Minnesota Press in 2004.
