Alan Heineman
Professor
Alan Heineman (BA Stanford, 1966, MA and PhD. Brandeis, 1974)
joined the English Dept. in 1970. He focuses on 19th-21st Century
U.S. literature, especially fiction. A former editor of the
now-defunct S.F. Review of Books, he has published scholarly
articles and reviews on modern writers such as DeLillo, Didion, and
Hawkes. He also teaches in the Honors Program in Humanities, and
has been its Director since 1990. From 1966 to the early
1980's he published scores of articles and reviews on
jazz, blues and rock. A founding officer of the USF Faculty Assn.
(AFT Local 4269) in 1975, he served as President from 1988-2005. In
2012, he received the prestigious Sarlo Prize, recognizing
excellence in teaching based on the ethical values at the core of
USF's identity.
