Dayle M. Smith, PhD, is Professor of Management at the McLaren School of Business, University of San Francisco. She holds her doctorate in organizational communication and organizational behavior from the University of Southern California. Before coming to USF, she taught at both Georgetown University and the University of Southern California. Professor Smith teaches classes in Leadership, Management and Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management and other management electives at the undergraduate, graduate and executive MBA levels. Through McLaren, she also teaches in several international programs, most recently in Hong Kong, Mainland China and in the Republic of Georgia along with active participation in Executive Programs working with such groups as Nippon Telephone & Telegraph, the Northern Ireland Small Business Institute and others. |

Dayle is best known for her work in leadership, teambuilding and other human resource management research. Her most recent work includes — Women at Work: Leadership for the Nest Century (Prentice Hall, 2000) and Management Communciation (w/A. Bell, John Wiley & Sons, 1999). Other publications includetwo books in The Practical Executive Series on Leadership and on Corporate Teams (NTC 1997). Other works include: Motivating People (Barron’s 1992, 1997); Winning with Difficult People (Barron’s, 1992, 1996); Kincare and the American Corporation: Solving the Work-Family Dilemma (Irwin, 1991) and a chapter on Leadership from a Women’s Perspective in Northhouse’s Leadership: Theory and Practice (Sage, 1996). Her articles have appeared in such journals as the Academy of Management Executive, Human Resource Management Journal, Employee Benefit Plan Review, Journal of Business Communication, Journal of Staffing and Recruitment, and others.
In addition to her research and teaching, Dayle consults regularly for a number of organizations. Recent clients include or have included: Quaker Oats, IDG, Cost Plus World Market, Inc., WEBB 99 Charles Schwab, DuPont, Kaiser Permanente, the Library of Congress, Marriott Corporation, Lucky Food Stores, A. Ferrari Foods, Paine Webber, The CIA Child Care Center; Countrywide Credit Industries, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, the US State Department, the U.S. Department of Transportation, China Resources Company, and others. She serves on several Boards, coaches softball for the Tiburon Peninsula Little League, plays Marin and USTA League Tennis and tries to stay actively involved in her community.
