| Medical Microbiology serves as an introduction to the world of pathogenic microbes. The course begins with an overview of microorganisms, then shifts to the human immune system, including its role in resistance to infection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Emphasis is placed on bacterial and viral infections of the respiratory, digestive, and genitourinary systems and for each topic case studies are discussed. An integral part of the course is the laboratory, in which students will gain hands-on knowledge of microbial growth and diagnostic procedures. | |
