
DEFINITIONS
Bill of Rights- The first ten ammendments of the constitution that guarentee peoples fundamental civil liberties and rights.
Campaign- A series of planned political actions that result in election.
Capitalism- Free Market Economic structure
Capital Punishment- Punishment by death penalty enforced by the Judiciary.
Constitution- A document created by our founding fathers that defines the separate branches of government and the relationships between the states.
Democracy- A form of government that represents the people.
Democrat- A political party that believes in more government involvement in spending and the advancement of social wellfare.
Liberty- The right or power to be free. It is required under democracy.
Politics- The science and methods of government. Derived from the Greek word "Polis" which means community.
Republican- A political party that stresses less government involvement.
Three Branches of Goverment:
Executive branch- Consists of the United States president and his/her administration.
Legislative branch- Also known as congress, is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives. There are 486 Representatives and 100 Senate members. There are two Senators per state and the Representatives are elected according to the present demographics of the United States.
Judicial branch- Consists of the United States supreme court which can have a maximum of nine justices on the panel.
Organization Abreviations
GOP- Grand Ole' party synonomous for the Republican Party.
NRA- National Rifle Association
