What the Waves Said
All day the waves were whispering...
Late at night they still were saying,
"Wait until the water has worn down
Your former furies and your cares."
Life was like an undertow
When first I ventured from the shore.
Somehow I refused to sink;
Now the waves are my true home.
"Roam with me," the waves still say,
"Gather up the ones you love,
Head out on the whitecap ocean,
Pass the landmarks that you know,
Sail into a splendid day."
I lie between my land-locked sheets,
Thinking nothing could be sweeter
Than to hear the sirens cry.
