Mornings come and mornings go,
But oh! the serendipity
That sometimes floods the heart with joy.
It may be nothing more
Than sunshine after darkened skies;
It might be the beginning
Of a greater way of seeing.
What are all the active signs of pleasure,
If not gestures meant for our enjoyment?
Bees who visit many blossoms,
Children dancing in the park,
Countless dogs who radiate delight--
All of these are symptoms of beneficence.
I breathe in deeply their perfume
Mixed with bracing memories
Of oceans known or only dreamed,
Carried on the wave-tossed breeze.
