Buses will leave USF at 8:45 am. The first stop is the National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) Ames Research Center at Moffett Field. This is about a 30 minute ride from USF. Starting at 9:30 am, we will have a two-hour tour that will include a presentation on the current biomechanic research that NASA is doing, as well as the motion simulator, centrifuge and wind tunnel. Our group will then have access to the cafeteria where each attendee will be on his/her own for lunch. We will try to leave shortly after 12:00 noon.
NOTE: This is a US government installation, and, depending on the political climate, it is possible that individuals from certain nationalities will be denied access to the facility, and/or this tour could be canceled completely (e.g., during the Gulf War, all tours were canceled). Registration must be completed by April 1, 2001. United States citizens must bring a form of photo identification. Foreign nationals must provide their status and bring a green card, visa, or other documentation. In the case of cancellation, you will be reimbursed for the whole tour, as we will NOT go to The Tech either.
The next stop will be The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose. The trip from Ames will be about 30 minutes. We will stay until 4:00 pm. This will give you two hours to visit the exhibits, as well as attend one of the IMAX films, which is included in your price of the tour. Typically these films last less than one hour. The cafeteria is open until 4:00 pm, so you can get food if you wish. We'll try to leave around 4:00 pm to avoid rush hour traffic and get back to USF by 4:45 pm or 5:00 pm.
