Course Purpose

 The purpose of this course is to (a) assist students in learning how to enter, clean, prepare, and use data sets, (b) learn the basic operations of SPSS, and (c) provide the opportunity to use, apply, and interpret the statistical procedures learned in 706 using SPSS.

 SPECIFIC GOALS 

By the end of the course, students will

  • know how to enter and clean data, to use the recoding capabilities of SPSS to prepare data for statistical analyses, and to maintain proper records of data analysis,
  • know how to analyze variable scores for reliability,
  • be able to use the visual display capabilities of SPSS to examine data prior to data analysis,
  • be able to apply appropriately the univariate statistical procedures of SPSS, including cross-tabulation, t test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation, regression, and nonparametric procedures, and
  • have gained confidence in their ability to use statistics and apply statistical procedures appropriately.
