Purpose The purpose of this course is to assist class members in becoming knowledgeable about the purpose of data analysis, examine alternative statistical procedures that are appropriate for handling data in given situations, and acquire skills and techniques for using, understanding, and interpreting statistical procedures appropriately. This course is designed for only one semester, and, hence, it is not possible to cover all statistical procedures, but the basis for understanding many of the procedures will be presented. This course has been developed to present a pertinent and interesting approach to statistical topics with an emphasis on conceptual understanding and interpreting for students without extensive mathematical background. Students should be able to approach data analysis from a consumer's perspective and not from a manufacturer or inventor of the techniques point-of- view. A focus of the course will be on writing of results of statistical analyses. Students will be provided the computer output as the basis of the writing assignments. These writeups are to be in APA format (if required by the student's department for the dissertation) or Turabian. All tables will be in standard format as found in most research journals. General Objectives By the termination of the course, class members should have the ability to
