A tourist visiting an island in the state of Hawai'i becomes fascinated by the lava rocks left behind in the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. This is his first time visiting the Big Island, as it is referred to by the locals because of its ever-growing size due to the land mass being added by the erupting volcano. His interest in the lava rocks soon leads him to decide to take one with him to bring back home as a memento of his trip.

Little does this man know, the lava rock SHOULD have been left in its natural surroundings. Within days of returning from his trip, he loses his job, becomes extremely ill, and suddenly finds himself engrossed in a deep, depressed state. Doctors, experts, and other professionals are unable to determine the cause of his illnesses, until one day someone informs him of the curse of the Hawaiian goddess, Pele. She is the goddess of fire and inflicts a curse upon anyone who takes a lava rock from her volcano away from their environment. At first, he chooses not to believe it but discovers through research and more hearsay, that others have experienced similar "bad luck" when taking a lava rock from Hawai'i. He also finds out that the only way to rid himself of this awful state is to return the lava rock where it belongs . . . back to the island of Hawai'i. Upon returning the lava rock back to its "home," his life almost immediately improves. Coincidence? Or was the curse uplifted due to him placing the lava rock back on the Big Island?
