Greetings!

The Earth is part of a vast cosmic object called the Solar System that is billions of years old. In this unit of study we will learn about how it formed and evolved and learn about some of its other inhabitants. We will also look at the Earth's unique position in the solar system, and the conditions that have allowed life to begin and evolve here. We will apply our knowledge to create a conceptual design for an orbital space colony that we will enter in the annual contest held by NASA. We will also visit a planetarium and look at some of the careers related to the exploration and development of space-the final frontier.

Unit information and requirements:

The unit will require extensive access to online resources and various software applications, both in and outside of class. The basic skills required to create the course products will, however, be covered in class.

You will also, be required to keep a journal to record important concepts and terms, log your observations, do homework assignments, and write reflections on what you have learned.

There will be two quizzes.
