The Internet provides wonderful information and it can help your children expand their horizons in ways that previous generations never could. By taking an active role in your children's Internet activities, you'll be ensuring that they can benefit from the wealth of child-friendly information the Internet has to offer.

DON'T
doHave your children tell you about any communicationthat was "scary".
don'tNever use (or allow) bad languageor send mean messagesonline.
doKeep the computer in a common area, not in individual bedrooms, where you can watch and monitor your child.
don'tNever give out or allow your children to give outpersonal information (real names, credit card numbers, phone numbers or addresses, photographs).
doBecome computer literate and learn how this technology works.
don'tNever use real names in chat rooms. Always use a gender neutral screen name if possible.
doSpend time online together to teach your child appropriate behavior.
don'tNever accept or allow your child to acceptfile transfer requests from strangers.
doBookmarkyour child's favorite sites for easy access.
don'tNever agree to meet anyone from a chat room in person.
Help your family by posting "The Rules for Safe Chat Use"
in a visible place near the computer.
