Imagine...
having
to pack everything you own (but only what you can carry), travel
by boat or plane for hours to days, leave the home you where you
grew up to move to a different country where people looked different
than you, spoke a language you could not understand, and celebrated
unfamiliar cultural traditions and customs.
Immigrants from
all over the world have faced these challenges to come to the United
States in hopes of creating a better life for themselves and future
generations.
The
Chinese have encountered many hardships in theirjourney to America.
You will learn about the history of Chinese immigration to the United
States. With a partner,you will investigate how the Chinese influenced
and contributed to important events in California history such as
the Gold Rush and the building of the Transcontinental Railroad.
