The McCarthy Fellows summer program offers students the opportunity to study and intern in state legislative and executive offices for ten weeks in Sacramento. The Center places students at internship sites and supports them throughout the summer with mentorship opportunities and an orientation to ensure they have a rich, meaningful experience.
Past placements include:
- State Auditor's Office
- Assembly and Senate Offices
- Caucuses
- CA Department of Healthcare Services
- Press Office of the Senate Majority Leader
...and many more!
Students also attend a seminar on California politics and governance on the USF Sacramento campus. The class allows students to share their internship experiences and helps them to understand the context within which state policies are created. Guest lecturers regularly join the class.
The McCarthy Fellows program is open to students who currently have sophomore standing or higher, including those who are planning to graduate this year. Students must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA and a demonstrated interest in public policy to be eligible for the program.
You will also need to download the McCarthy Summer Fellows Reference Form.
