Student Exhibition Opportunities

Crossroads Gallery

University Center, Crossroads Café Corridor

Located outside of the Crossroads Café on the lower level of University Center, the Crossroads Gallery is a public display area dedicated to showing artworks and projects by the students in the Department of Art + Architecture.  Work exhibited includes pieces produced for classes, including the final presentations of the Artist as Citizen class, as well as special student-initiated shows.  As the University’s student gallery situated in a high-traffic campus area, it is a dynamic space with rapidly changing exhibitions.

Thacher Student Showcase

Gleeson Library/Geschke Center

The Thacher Student Showcase is an annual juried exhibition featuring juniors and seniors from USF’s art, design, architecture, and media studies program. Coordinated by USF’s Museum Studies class, the exhibit is a student show run by students. Since its beginning in 2000, the exhibition has continued to grow.  Our most recent exhibition included over 40 artists and 50 artworks.

Jurors include professional artists from the Bay Area and arts faculty.  Each year three cash prizes are awarded:

  • The Mary and Carter Thacher Prize for outstanding composition and technique
  • The Gloria Osuna Pérez Award for an artwork that best explores social and community issues
  • The Student Choice Award

The Thacher Showcase provides an opportunity for arts students to experience the challenge of submitting to a professional gallery as well as the pleasure of sharing their works with the public. It is also an opportunity for beginning Arts Managements students to get hands-on experience in exhibition planning.

The Thacher Student Showcase opens the last Friday of the Spring semester with a reception and awards ceremony.
