Master's Degree Options

  1. Master of Arts in Teaching w/ the Preliminary Teaching Credential
    http://www.soe.usfca.edu/departments/teachered/ma_teaching.html
    • Students will complete all of the necessary coursework as outlined by their
      advisor and reflected in their template.
    • Students are expected to receive their preliminary teaching credential and
      Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree by the end of their fifth year.
    • This is the “traditional” Dual Degree MA. Your DDTP template reflects
      this option, unless indicated otherwise.

  2. Master of Arts in Teaching of ESL w/ the Preliminary Teaching Credential
    http://www.soe.usfca.edu/departments/ime/ma_tesl.html
    • Students will complete 0705-638: TESL Field Project, in lieu of
      0708-619: Master's Field Project.
    • Students will complete 3 courses in addition to those required for the MAT.
      These courses may only be taken during the graduate year:
      0707-632: Structure of American English
      0705-630: Teaching English as a Second Language
      0705-633: Preparation and Evaluation of ESL Materials
    • Note: the time to complete this Master’s option is longer than the traditional MAT!

  3. Master of Arts in Educational Technology w/ the Preliminary Teaching Credential

    • After admission into the graduate program, students will complete an additional 15 units to obtain the Master of Arts in Educational Technology.
    • Note: the time to complete this Master's option is longer than the traditional MAT!
