Tara AugustWorking for one of the largest broadcasters of televised and online sports programming, Tara August (MA ’04) recruits and oversees the biggest on-air announcers and commentators in the industry, including Shaquille O’Neal, Pedro Martinez, Charles Barkley and Gary Sheffield. "The USF Sport Management program came at a very interesting time in my life. I had just landed my first full-time job working in the sport industry, with the San Diego Padres, but felt I needed a more holistic understanding of the industry. USF provided that more than I could have anticipated. The program equips students with knowledge of not only how to become a sports professional, but a sports leader. The curriculum provided a depth of understanding into a multitude of leagues, professions, and the cultures of sports and business and how they intersect. Most rewarding were the relationships developed with faculty, staff, and my cohort mates. Years later they are all industry leaders, and they are peers, and they are friends. I am grateful to be an alumnus."

"When my dad passed away the fall of 2001, I knew I needed to start living life to the fullest, and that started with my career. I had played sports my entire life and like so many others, dreamed of a career working in the sports industry. It was time to stop dreaming and start doing and the University of San Francisco Sports Management Program was the first step. From the first course, Leadership Critical Thinking, I was hooked! Each person associated with the program has an innate ability to connect with the students. In addition, every aspect of the program teaches you to think about things in a different way than you normally would, while challenging you to be better human beings. I was impressed how each professor brought first hand industry knowledge and presented it in their own unique way. That resonated with me and inspired me to become an Adjunct Professor in the program myself. If you want to have a career in the sports industry, there is no better place to start than the USF Sport Management Program; it changed my life and it can change yours too."
