Dante, Verdi, Fellini, Botticelli – Italian is the language of literature, opera, cinema and art. Its romance has captivated speakers (some 85 million) and non-speakers around the world for generations.

The Italian curriculum at the University of San Francisco will enhance your knowledge of Italy’s culture and literature by analyzing the composition of the language. Three of the following Italian classes fulfill the USF foreign language requirement:

ITAL 101 - First Semester Italian (4)

This course stresses the spoken language by reviewing Italian grammar, composition, and conversation. The course includes a mandatory one-hour weekly group conversation class with a tutor for nine weeks of the semester outside of the class meeting time. Offered every fall.

ITAL 102 - Second Semester Italian (4)

This course (a continuation of ITAL 101 – First Semester Italian) offers an intensive review of grammar, composition and conversation, with a stress on the spoken language. The course includes a mandatory one-hour weekly group conversation class with a tutor for nine weeks of the semester outside of the class meeting time. Offered every spring. You must complete ITAL 101 – First Semester Italian or equivalent competence as determined by the department.

ITAL 201 - Third Semester Italian (4)

This course (a continuation of ITAL 102 – Second Semester Italian) offers a review of grammar and reading, with a stress on composition. Offered every fall. You must complete ITAL 102 – Second Semester Italian or equivalent competence as determined by the department.

ITAL 202 - Fourth Semester Italian (4)

This course offers a review of grammar, with a stress on reading, conversation and composition. Offered intermittently in the spring semester. You must complete ITAL 201 – Third Semester Italian or equivalent competence as determined by the department.
